Let us introduce you to the queen of all rose fragrances….Radical Rose. The concept behind the Matiere Premiere collection is quite simply to hero raw materials. To create a line that focuses on the ingredients and ensure that the very best ingredients are only used. This means that Aurelien Guchard, the creator of this line knows each farm he works with very well to ensure the highest quality.
This fragrance line is the scent equivalent of farm to table style eating. Aurelien is a 7th generation perfumer who, like his father, has worked on many iconic commercial fragrances. From Grasse, Aurelien is based at his family’s organic rose and tuberose farm. Providing rose and jasmine to the fragrance industry initially, the Guchard family worked with another family of flower pickers from Germany who they saved from the concentration camps in 1945, establishing a safe place for them at their farm, as well as the perfect flower picking techniques. The same family continues to pick flowers at their farm as the skills have been passed through their family from generation to generation.
Guchard is the only perfumer who is also the supplier of the raw ingredients that he uses in his fragrances. Now this might not sound so wow, but it's like a wonderful fairy tale in regards to the story and what this encapsulates for the brand. So, what this does mean is that we have the purest rose in Radical Rose. We also have an absolute overdose of the highest quality organic rose that most other perfumers are unable to use due to the immense cost of rose oil. Radical Rose has the highest legal concentration of rose oil in a fragrance.
This rose fragrance smells like a wild rose in its entirety. When you smell the roses on Aurelien’s farm, you get the juicy sweetness of the petals, yet when you turn the rose over (and look at it from underneath) you get a green, sharp spiciness that becomes more prominent. Radical Rose aims to give you the scent of the earth, the soil, the stem, the back of the rose and of course, the precious petals of the rose.
You get the sharpness at an initial sniff; the pepper berries, saffron and rose notes blend together to create a sharp, green freshness surrounding the rose. As this eventually settles, we are introduced to a sublime and absolutely perfect rose fragrance. A decadently powerful rose that has a slight jamminess to it, yet is full bodied and silky smooth. Then we have another sniff and it is deeper and headier. As more time passes the warm resins and patchouli give the fragrance a bit more body to ensure it lingers for as long as possible, because it really is just that incredible...
